Shabbos Posting

A gut Shabbos to all, just a few quick things, to cover like the stuff that used to go out in the weekly email.

Firstly a 'Shkoach' to whoever fixed up the profiles thing, it makes the blog look that much more 'proffesional'....
Secondly a Mazal Tov to David and Richard Graber, who are celebrating their 21st Birthday on Tuesday(hebrew date). Also to Avi Israel and Levi Groner both whose birthdays are around now. May Hashem Give them only blessings, in both spiritual and physical matters.

Community events:

There is a Friday night Jewish student meal, this week (28/7), at Elwood Shule, 39 Dickens St. from 6pm onwards.

On Shabbos day there is a free lunch at the weekly 'old collegians' minyan run at Beth Rivkah gym. Chassidus-930am. Davening starts at 1015am. All welcome .

Also, the minyan also has weekly shiurim at Moishe Kahn's house(103 Hotham Rd), this weeks is about 'kabbalah of davening' with known Kabbalist Rabbi Laibl Wolf on Monday night 830pm.

To find out more about the situation in Israel, with analysis and insight by an expert, there is a free event at Toorak Shule- (cnr Toorak and Arnold Rd, South Yarra), This sunday(30/7) from 5-7pm This might help you explain and defend Israel's actions on campus when attacked by ignoramouses.

Tisha B'av events will iy'h be posted early next week.

Jewish Website of the week:
With ipods becoming more and more popular, here is a site which allows you to download Torah lessons for FREE:
www.613.org

Dvar Torah for the week:
We are now found in the period between the 17th of Tammuz and 9th of Av, known as 'The three weeks'. It is in general a very sad time for the Jewish people and historically(unfortunately with the situation in Israel its also currently) many bad things have happened to us. Therefore we are sad. But the sadness is not a means in itself. The point of us mourning the terrible things happening to us is so that we try and do something to change it. The mourning is to get us to feel the pain, but the loss which we feel, should push us to do something about it. And what is that 'thing'? Its one very powerful word and concept: Teshuvah. It means return, Hashem whats us to return to Him, to act like our true G-dly and refined selves, and to make a change for the better in our life. Rambam says that Moshiach will only come when all the Jews do Teshuvah, and it is somewhat inspiring to know that we have the power(our souls) and the tools(Torah) to bring Moshiach and the 3rd Temple. Therefore we feel sadness, but not depression, and it is tinged with purpose, hope and good resolutions.

Just a reminder to please say Tehillim for Eretz Yisorel: ch's 20,83,142,121,130, and150.(chof,pay gimel, kuf mem bet, kuf chof aleph, kuf chof lamed and kuf chof nun)
If you can't say it all, please try and say as much as you can,our brothers in Israel greatly appreciate it the help.....

Wishing everyone a good Shabbos, Yehuda

In light of the situation in Eretz Yisrael ...

Due to the situation in Israel and Jews lives being under danger, we should join in with Jews around the world and try and pray for them that G-d Should Protect His People. Try to say Tehilim (psalms) 20, 121, 130 in hebrew or if that is too hard, try and read the english with the right intentions for peace.
The whole Jewish Nation is praying to G-d that this 'war' as PM Ehud Olmert called it, is stopped right away. May G-d Hear the Jewish people's wishes....

And remember, just because we are distant physically doesn't mean we can't make a difference. By effecting the spiritual worlds by praying and good deeds, and especially tefillin, we can effect the situation of our bretheren in the Holy Land.

gut shabbos, yehuda

Welcome everybody....

Welcome all, to the newly created blogspot for Friends and graduates of Yeshivah college vce 2003. This is much better than the 'weekly' (more like monthly)emailed newsletter, as it gives everyone a say not just me.

The purpose of this blog is to be used as a tool for our class to stay in touch and post comments/pictures and ideas for all to see. Feel free to post about anything- torah, news, questions, upcoming class/community events, pictures of your life experiences and whatever else you fancy...
This is especially useful for those members who are abroad.....

Anyway enjoy and try and keep it clean :)
